A peek inside my little studio

I thought it would be fun to give you a peek inside my studio as it has been for the past few years. It’s quite a small and simple space, but has been super functional and such a perfect place for me to focus on my creative projects. It is soon to be completely configured to become a half studio and half nursery for our little bird on the way, so I love the idea of capturing and appreciating the space pre-baby, as it has served me well over the years : )

Each day, when I walked into my studio, I wanted my energy to be all about alignment and inspiration! The banner hanging above the desk is a work/life mantra that I picked up from one of my favorite podcasts, The Lively Show. The saying is "Alignment Before Action" and has helped guide me through so many of my days. It was the best reminder to have above my desk…anytime I was feeling blocked or frustrated, I could look up and remember not to force something that may not be flowing and find my alignment before moving forward again.

The desk was a random find on craigslist and turned out to be a homemade desk with a super handy light table in the middle! The wood panels hanging on the wall is all original artwork from The Busy Birds Adventures: Hello Bend!.

My goal for this space was to feel inspired and easily accessible. I wanted to be able to see what materials I had to work with and if I had the urge to experiment with a certain medium or quickly grab a tool, it would be right at my fingertips! I created my ultra-shallow shelves by simply attaching 2x4’s to the wall with L brackets. It’s been super convenient and the most functional storage I’ve had in a studio yet!

The more natural light the better! I find it so helpful to have natural light when working as it seems to help me not only visually, but also mentally stay more focused and alert. This window isn’t huge but does let in lots of light in the morning to early afternoon. I’m usually the most productive at those times so that was lucky!

This rolling cart always comes in handy! I keep all my paints that are in tubes in a small box on my cart along with my palette, cups for water, and a few other supplies in boxes below. When I want to do some painting, I just roll it over next to my desk or easel and I’m all ready to paint…easy peezy!

Having something available to collect random ideas quickly is super helpful to capture and organize any scattered thoughts without taking up too much extra time! I love having my typewriter out to write poems or random word combos that pop into my brain at any given moment! You can also of course just use a notebook and pen, but using a typewriter helps me write more concisely and confidently at the moment and aesthetically feels more inspiring in the space.

I also have a blue electric typewriter that was my Grandma’s and loved it in the corner underneath my cross-stitched art piece I found at a thrift store years ago that reads “One Day At A Time.” Another great reminder for me as I am known to get ahead of myself while working on big projects : )

That’s pretty much the entire space. It definitely didn’t always look this clean, but I have to say, once I created a home for most of my supplies and things it was WAY easier to tidy up at the end of the day! Thanks so much to Soul Bound Photography for giving me a really good reason to tidy up and for capturing my lil’ studio for me to always remember so fondly : )

Next time you see this space, it’s going to look a lot different!! Thanks so much for stopping by : )

Keep on creating!
